Scientific name Pouteria lucuma, the lucuma is a fruit originally from South America, more specifically in the Andes of Peru.
It is a fruit symbolic of the peruvian culture and known for the whole of South America, where formerly it was known as “The gold of the Incas”. Nowadays it is cultivated in countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica.
It presents itself as a green fruit on the outside, but inside is orange, and its pulp is fibrous and sweet. Its flavor is described as tropical.
